A few days ago I noticed this site had stopped being indexed in Google. It turns out that when I had upgraded to the new version of Blogger, it inserted new code that essentially told Google not to index this page. This is only supposed to happen in Blogger if a blog is set to private, which was not the case with mine. Marketing Pilgrim had an excellent post about how it sometimes sets meta tags to "NOINDEX, NOFOLLOW". I've removed the bad code, and hopefully Google will be reindexing shortly.

Starbucks sales
Ever wonder how much in sales the Starbucks in your neighborhood plaza has? I had a fun conversation today, and heard some interesting facts for a November. Gross sales are a little over 100k. Brewed coffee is 15% of that, Espresso drinks 60%, and 10% is bakery sales. And, about 1% in music sales, so probably around 3 CDs a day. If you figure an average drink is $3, that's 166 coffees a day, and 688 espresso based drinks. If they're open 14 hours a day, they're averaging over one coffee drink a minute. :)

A different use of blogging: The daughter of a friend of ours was in a serious car accident. They've been using something called www.carepages.com. It's essentially a password protected blog, with email notification. It's been a great way to stay up to date on something we're very concerned about, without being intrusive. And, I'm sure it cuts down on the number of times the parents have to give the same updates.
